Idaho is a beautiful state with plenty of stunning engagement spots to choose from.
From mountainous backdrops to lush forests, Idaho has something for everyone.
Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or an outdoor adventure, we have you covered.
In this blog, you'll find the best engagement spots in Idaho, from iconic destinations to hidden gems.
So, let's get started exploring Idaho's best engagement locations!
Deciding on the type of location you want
The first thing you want to decide is what kind of location and look you want. Do you want mountains, sand dunes, a lake, a garden, or buildings in your background? Pinterest is a great place to start so you can get inspired, look for ideas, and create boards. When you think about your engagement photos what do you picture? Do you want to do an engagement session? Whatever you picture in your mind is what you want to look for. Idaho has a variety of locations, so don’t feel stuck with your choices. However, remember that the vibe of your surroundings will definitely change the look of your overall photos. Pick something that fits you as a couple.
Location convenience: Pick the best of both worlds
Pick the location you want, first and foremost, but also keep in mind travel. Usually, a photographer will charge you extra for travel to those locations far away. Make sure to have a few locations in mind before you chat with your photographer so you can really pick the best location for both parties. Most photographers are very willing to travel wherever you want them to, however, keep in mind that it may cost you more. If your engagement session was included in a wedding photo & video package, make sure you know what travel is included in that package.
Pick your season
Many Idaho couples need their engagement photos done in a quick timely manner. However, if you have more time to pick the time of year your do your engagement session, here is a little guide to help:
Winter:
Idaho winters are beautiful, but they are cold. This just limits what you can wear and remember you will be very cold during the photo session. If you do a winter session make sure not to wear slippery shoes (men’s dress shoes before really slick on the snow) and to bring hand warmers.
Early Spring/ Later Fall:
These seasons just tend to be muddier, trees are in that in-between stage of losing their leaves which can look a little ugly, and there are just a lot more brown and mushy colors in the background. The weather is a little more bipolar and it can be hard to plan. There are still locations that can look good during this time it’s just a little riskier.
Summer/Late spring/ Early Fall:
These are the best times to take engagement photos. Late spring and early fall have beautiful colors and it tends to be the perfect temperature for most people. It gives more of a choice in clothing and the photo shoot is just a little more enjoyable overall.
Look at a variety
When finalizing your decision on your engagement location remember to look at a variety of galleries and photos from that one location. Looking at just one gallery or one photo won’t really tell you how your photos are going to look. Looking at a variety will help you know if that location is good for you.
